An up and down week

It is only Wednesday and it feels like it has been double that. I don't get what is up with Trevor and his cough. He got a cold starting on Friday and it has manifested itself in the form of a horrible hacking cough. The normal stand-by Delsym does not work and he was able to take a nap on Monday, but not since then. He wants to try to go back to school today, but I really wish his cough would hold up. Last night was no better than the other 4 nights. It is tough to think he's going to get better fast if he can't sleep well.

Gwen has probably the same thing but only coughs on rare occasions. She went to school yesterday and her spirits have been fine. I took Trevor to the doctor yesterday in hopes to get a cough suppressant but turns out they would rather give him a antibiotic for his ear infection that he hasn't been complaining about. While the doctor we saw did have kids, I have a hard time believing that they have been through things like this. Or I wonder if they are bound by some sort of statement by the company that they work for that they cannot suggest cough or cold medicine to children under age 12. But I'd love to see how many of these decision makers have children who go hours before being able to cough themselves to sleep.

A wonderful day was had on both Sunday and Monday earlier this week. Bubba had her big party and a nephew was born on Monday. Lots of early October birthdays in the extended family! I have to say that with the lack of sleep, it has been tough to keep my happy attitude, but I have explained to the kids that I do not have a lot of patience because I often wish that it was the end of the day so I can go to sleep. I don't necessarily know that it makes the kids behave any better, but I think it may make Trevor understand that I don't have a lot of tolerance for the normal bickering. I'm only human.

School starts again for me today with two classes, and I'm going to try to get as much done early as I can. We'll have to see how I pull that off. Time to start the day!

I went on an adventure!

For my family members....and to Brian....I hope I don't ruin your own blog by posting this. Disclaimer that I was only a spectator to this whole contest and I hope he gives you a real insider view.

So Tuesday was the premiere night for Brian's (and crew) 48 hour film project. It was a perfect movie-watching night because it was rainy and dreary. Brian and I had planned on meeting at a nearby restaurant/bar for dinner beforehand, but the weather was so bad and causing such traffic issues that I left an hour and a half before showtime and while sitting in traffic I was very concerned that I wouldn't make it in time.

Also, while I was sitting in traffic, the car started to overheat. The warning light came on and it hit the highest temperature that it would read. So I was scared to even pull over and stop because I didn't know if the car would start again. Remembering back to my driver's training days, I knew that if I wanted to help the temperature, I should turn on the heat. So I cracked the windows (think rain pouring down now) and blasted the heat. Thank goodness it did work, however now I was dripping sweat. I guess I got my wish that I wanted to be hot hot hot!

I survived that ordeal to make it to meet Brian to get my ticket before entering the premiere. I met some of the fellow project people and then we went in to get some snacks and our seats. This showing was 13 of the 92 (I believe) Minneapolis projects. We were handed a voting ballot so that we could vote on our top 3 favorites. We then could also see the different genre's of movies that everyone submitted. Brian's film was horror and they were up first. For those that don't know...their project was to complete a 4-7 minute film in 48 hours. They drew genre's out of a hat, and had to have 3 elements in their film. 1) A character named Kevin or Kathleen Schnable, 2) a sandwich (as a prop), and 3) a line of dialogue being, "I hope they decide soon". It was interesting to see all the ways that these groups incorporated the elements into their films.

I, of course, was also paying close attention to the sound in all of the films. Brian did a stellar job on his own project, and I was amazed at the quality of the others. They ranged from crazy-feedback-type-sound to Hollywood movie quality.

So the different genre's were very long stretching....Brian's group was horror. They used a great location to give it that "scary" feel. The next was Drama....I have to say....high school students could have done a better job writing the script. Woman enters restaurant, breaks up with fiancee, and leaves with the guy she cheated on her fiancee with. One of my favorites was the romance genre....it was about a couple that meets and then finds out that they are cousins and wonders if they should continue "dating" or what have you. It was funny and well timed. Another one that was silly....unintentionally...or maybe not was the foreign film. They used German as the foreign language, but only used a first level amount of German. "Ja" was used a lot. And last, I have to mention that there was a "Ghost" genre that everyone was talking about. It was a BAD movie for me to see because it involved a young boy, his younger sister and a gun. I'll stop there. Of course you could argue this had to be a "good" movie if it made me disturbed, because that was its intention. But really? For me? I was very close to walking out of the theater, because I could predict what it was doing and was not happy about it.

Anyway, the shows concluded, we voted and met up with the crew again to meet at the after party. Turns out, no one notified the cafe that there was to be an after party, so when everyone got there, no one could get in. There were a few workers cleaning up, but no one to answer the people outside looking in.

So instead we headed back to my neck of the woods to have a little dinner and chat. It was just Brian and I, so we had a nice chat....something I haven't really done much of since turning into an adult as I have realized since Kevin's wedding planning days. It was interesting to hear about everything that went into the planning and execution of the movie and what would be next for them.

So overall....a new experience and a bit of an adventure for me. Congratulations to Brian....it was super cool to see your name on the big screen! I hope this is the first of many and maybe next time even an award or two to go along with it!

A playmate for Gwen!

Congratulations to Heather, Andy, and Hayden! Madelynn Renee was born at 1:30 am July 29th, 7lbs 2oz just a mere 35 minutes after arriving at the hospital! Sounds like a girl I know ;-) I can't wait for a year or two from now when both girls and boys can play with their respective friends. In the mean time, I wish you all lots of sleep!

Crazy week

While we were at the lake Monday and Tuesday, it has been a crazy week here at home.

First off, I wanted to pass on my congratulations again, although a little late to Erika and her family. They had a beautiful baby girl on Monday. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE her name. Piper Chloe. Their daughter Caroline picked out her middle name. Hopefully she'll get her night's straight soon!

Here at home, it has been a nice return to the house. Trevor has been tough on Thursday but pretty good yesterday. He did get in trouble early on Friday but when I told him he needed a time out, he brought himself upstairs. WOW. I just hope that his attitude continues until next week for camps. I read him the description of the classes for the coming weeks and he sounded very excited. I think he was also very happy that he wasn't going back to art camp. Poor guy. I hope I didn't scar him for life with that one.

Gwen has been going on a nap strike for most of the week. I have successfully gotten her to stop napping on my shoulder. Although I do have to get her to sleep that way. I think she is finally on her way to popping a tooth, or some kind of milestone because she is not enjoying her bottles. I know Trevor did this too and we had tried to change bottle flow thinking that that was the issue. So this time I'm pretty sure it's just a phase or else her teeth are bothering her.

Hopefully she'll figure the nap thing out soon. It would be nice to get some stuff done around the house!

CONGRATULATIONS!

WHEW! Busy night last night! Just so happened, two big events happened.

First, I believe I successfully pulled off a suprise b-day party for Russ. I wasn't able to be there for the big reveal, but I know he was very happy to see all his friends that came for the big event. And family too! It was a great turn-out and I was very happy to see everyone that was able to make it!

Second, and no less important, my brother Kevin popped the question to Kelsey! And she happily accepted! They were on a vaca out in La Jolla, CA and unable to make the party, but I think this was a very good reason to not make it. We missed you at the party, but I can't wait to hear the details of your wedding planning! I wish I could have been a wedding planner. And hey, if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, just let me know! I'm also very good at taking direction to butt out, so don't think I'm going to be a big hoverer.

Have fun and make it a great day!

In the mean time, Russ is sleeping it off today. Thanks for getting him home safely - you know who you are!

Welcome to the World Addison!

Last night, little Miss Addison Ann was welcomed into this world late last night. She was a little later than her sister (although the same "lateness" as little Gwen ;-) ) and very loved. So a big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Megan, Troy, and Ellie! Hope you are ready for the estrogen in a few short years Troy! And hope that Gwendolyn and Addison can be great friends in a few years!
