Gwen's new trick

I figured it's been a while since I added a video, and Gwen wanted to say hi. I will be trying to get ready for our trip to Wisconsin Dells on Friday, so I may not be posting much this week. Hopefully this will tide you all over ;-)

"I had so much fun"

It is really cool to hear Trevor say these things. He now has a way to express his thank you to anyone that does anything for him. Granted, he doesn't really know he is doing it, but it is one of my favorite things to hear from him. He says it when someone comes over to play with him, he says it if we go and do something, sometimes at a restaurant (Like Majors for Daddy's birthday party last week), and we got it again last night.

We went out bowling.

Now he has played it on the Wii so he knows what it is all about. He knows strikes, spares, rolling the ball. And when Russ and I went out for date night and came back and told him about it, he said next time he wanted to go with. So last night we went. He is to young to actually put his fingers in the holes of the ball and roll it "correctly" but he can lug around the 6lb ball and walk up and heave it down the lane. We used the bumpers so he could see lots of pins knocked down, and even got one (or maybe two, I don't remember) spares. He also enjoyed walking next to us when it was our turn to bowl. When it was his turn, he would take his ball, walk quickly to the line, heave it down the lane and run back to back where everyone else was standing to watch his ball roll. He could have done it all night. We played two complete games and he wanted more.

Lucky for me, I got some coupons good for free games next time, so we can stay a bit longer. But we did get a big "I had so much fun bowling" comment as well as a "I'm going to go bowling again tomorrow" request.

On another note: There is a rumor floating around that they are going to make another Cars movie. It would have to be after the current Toy Story 3 that is due out in 2010, so that will make Trevor 7 years old, probably 8 if it releases in 2012 or so. I don't doubt that he'll still be into Nascars, I hope he won't be too cool to see a cartoon. Maybe Gwen will have to inherit all of Trevor's cars, so she'll be the perfect age for the movie - 5 or so. I guess we'll just have to see.

Gwen Growing up

I wanted to document how she has been doing, and how things have been with her before I forget. And I'm sure I'm going to forget a lot as it is, but it's more to remember for other parents or parent-t0-be.

Month #1
Seriously just surviving and getting as much sleep as you can. Trying to keep yourself healthy and healing from being pregnant are very important. Gwen was pretty good at sleeping once we figured out that she was hungry most of the time. She slept for I think 6-7 hours straight in the hosptial, and is pretty good at night time. Really, I never leave my chair during the day to nurse her. She is on me all the time. Poor Trevor doesn't get a lot of time with me. While she doesn't have as much of a falling reflex when she sleeps, she will still stir awake occassionally. Every car ride is a horror. She doesn't start screaming when you strap her in, but shortly after.

Month #2
Having more time where she wasn't just eating or sleeping. She was a great smiler. It made it easier. She really started to get gassy, and we tried to move her into her own room at this time because she was already only getting up to eat like once a night. Going to sleep between 11 - 1:30. It still really isn't much time before she goes back to sleep, but at least she isn't always on me anymore. But she still cannot entertain herself. AT. ALL. She needs to be held or brought with whenever I do anything. We are trying to hold on to her for a good 15 minutes plus before putting her to sleep. Otherwise she knows she is in her bed and wants to be on someone. I tried her sleeping on her stomach, but she didn't care. She would still wake up. But I did find out that sleeping on her side was easier. Maybe because she ate a lot of the time on her boppy pillow so that's how she fell asleep. We now sit behind her in long car rides so she can look at someone's face. It helps for about 15 minutes, then she still freaks out.

Month #3
Average time going to bed is around 11:30. Up for the day between 5:30 and 6:00. She has about 10 bottles a day. But doesn't eat a full bottle ever. She fusses when she eats most of the time, unless it is the middle of the night. When we are out and about, she is easily distracted and doesn't seem to need to eat as much. I don't know if it is because the flow of liquid is too slow, if she is gassy, just wants to suck on something, or something else. She has yet to consistantly take a pacifier or find a thumb. When she naps, on average it is 15 minutes. Yes I'll get REALLY lucky like once a week for a 2-3 hour nap, but otherwise, it is very hard to do anything. I can take her on 5 minute car rides to pick up Trevor from school, otherwise she freaks out.

Month #4
I start feeling more confident on taking the kids out. I sign up for Music Class for Trevor again. The car ride is longer, and Gwen starts to make it some of the time. It's only 10 minutes at most. Average time going to bed is 10:30 - 11:00. She will go through times where she will sleep all the way until 6, but other times she wakes up once. Trevor was over a year before I got this much sleep at night. During the day, her naps are around 30 minutes. But at least now, she stays awake about 2 hours and then needs to take a nap. I carry her around a lot when I have to get stuff done, otherwise I can't do anything. She still isn't lasting long playing by herself, unless she has a face to look at. If I can make her last 3 hours between bottles, she eats well without fussing. But some days it just doesn't work that way.

Month #5
Things are really starting to work. Her bedtime is moving earlier, but nighttimes are hit or miss. This particular week, she is going to bed around 9:30 but waking up around 3 and staying awake until 5. Happily of course, but it isn't very easy on mom. It could be worse. She could be waking up at 5 and then when she finally goes back down, Trevor could be waking up. I know this is just a phase. I also know that sleeping in her bouncy chair is a phase, but she is getting really big for it! It is the happiest place for her to eat. She is VERY easily distracted when she eats, but can usually last 3 hours or until she has to nap again before getting another bottle. Car rides go pretty well. She can last 30 minutes and up to 25 without a face to look at. She can entertain herself for 10 minutes at home in the exersaucer or under her baby gym. Her naps are about 40 minutes or so - only get 3 or so a day. I'm looking forward to next month when she really gets the nighttime sleeping down. Granted, a lot of what is going on now is probably teething related. She has a runny nose, but it doesn't seem to be cold-related. Most likely teething. She did also just start sucking on a pacifier to numb her gums. As long as she has been well-fed, she likes to suck on it. I'm hoping eventually she will take it as a way to get herself to sleep. But I can't count on that.

Anyway, things are really changing....she loves to babble and make new noises. She sits up very well, but does not like cereal. So we'll be holding off for at least another few weeks. I might just have to add to this if I forget of something I wanted to add...otherwise I'll just add new "months" in new posts.

Forgot some stuff about Trevor

So when playing with Trevor yesterday, I was thinking that there were a few things that I forgot to mention that he does. Yes, he likes to reinact things that he's seen in movies or on TV, but he also likes to reinact things he read in his book. We got a few new books at Target last week, and I've been reading them again and again - it's what he asks for.

And it might be in part because he loves Thomas and Friends as well, because the stories are narrated on the TV show. But what he does, is if we are following a book he likes to read, he always narrates what we are doing. Or states: "said Buzz".

And for the record, Gwen has been napping most of the afternoon. Guess that means she'll be up tonight. Ug.

Boy do I feel guilty...

After writing that entry yesterday, we had a really good day. Gwen didn't nap much (granted, when does she ever?) but she was in a pretty good mood. I was able to get our laundry done for the day, make dinner, even play with Trevor for a while.

Trevor had a good day too. We only have a few days of when we don't have something scheduled to do, but I think he needed it. Just to be able to relax and unwind.

Gwen went to sleep for good last night at about 10:30 and slept until almost 6. She's been a little more cranky today, and not wanting to nap, but I can take it better when I have a good night's sleep. Oh, and she also did pretty well with her cereal last night. I haven't quite figured out the morning portion, but that will come along soon, I think.

I have to complain

Because I can. Now I know I don't have it nearly as rough as some moms do. But I still get tired and stressed out when I don't get a good night's sleep.

I'm not sure if it was because she is getting a snotty cold in her nose, or because she is still adjusting to a good sleep schedule, or working on rolling over, but whatever the deal, she was up from 3-5:15, then up again at 6:15, then Trevor was up at 7. And there was no convincing her that she should be asleep at 3:30 or so. She was even quiet. But she could not go to sleep.

And there are things we could do to make it a little easier today, but with school being out, everything is going to be packed. And I don't have the heart to try to brave the crowds today. So we'll just have to muddle through and get whatever done that I can. Again, I know it's not as bad as it could be, but that doesn't exactly solve my tiredness issue.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, we are trying cereal with Gwen this past week. She's not too impressed, so I'm not sure if it will continue this week or not. I'm not remembering if she is not ready and not wanting to do it, or if she is just dealing with this new thing and not sure what to make of it. So we'll see how she does and then take it from there.

The countdown is finally here!

So although Trevor really only cares about the Sprint/Nextel cup of Nascar, he does recognize the screen crawl for Nascar if it is on the screen. We have been counting down to the Daytona 500 which was today. But the other cup (It was the Busch series last year) did run yesterday, and I just missed it on ESPN2. I flipped it on as they were wrapping up, and I wish I had a camera to capture Trevor's look on his face when he saw the Nascar crawl at the top of the screen. He RAN to his seat and sat down. Of course, I had to tell him it wasn't the right day, and that race was done.

But we made up for it today. They had coverage starting at 9am which I had playing in the background. He was at his nascar table, with his nascar cars for almost the entire day. I think although we had explained that the red #8 car is no more, actually seeing the #88 car, it finally clicked with him. I think the only thing that would have made it a bit better, would have been someone that he had should have won the race. And we have a lot. FYI.

So another thing - after the race, I switched to America's Funniest Home Videos. I think Trevor has grown up a little bit since the last time we watched the show which was probably 3 months or so ago. Of course they had a lovely hitting/pushing segment devoted to kids pushing down or hitting another kid. Trevor cracked up laughing when watching this segment. He hasn't really laughed at anything on this show, that I can remember. So its cool to see that his sense of humor is developing.

CONGRATULATIONS!

WHEW! Busy night last night! Just so happened, two big events happened.

First, I believe I successfully pulled off a suprise b-day party for Russ. I wasn't able to be there for the big reveal, but I know he was very happy to see all his friends that came for the big event. And family too! It was a great turn-out and I was very happy to see everyone that was able to make it!

Second, and no less important, my brother Kevin popped the question to Kelsey! And she happily accepted! They were on a vaca out in La Jolla, CA and unable to make the party, but I think this was a very good reason to not make it. We missed you at the party, but I can't wait to hear the details of your wedding planning! I wish I could have been a wedding planner. And hey, if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, just let me know! I'm also very good at taking direction to butt out, so don't think I'm going to be a big hoverer.

Have fun and make it a great day!

In the mean time, Russ is sleeping it off today. Thanks for getting him home safely - you know who you are!

Happy Valentine's Day - what goes on at school

It's been a very busy week for me...and I went to Trevor's school to help out on Tuesday, but haven't had a chance to talk about it since then. Today they had a Valentine's party and gave out Valentine's to all their classmates and brought home a big box full of Valentines to open.

So about school: I'm not sure if Trevor was on his best behavior or if it was a mostly normal day for him, but he did really well. He even seemed ok if I was not playing with him the entire time. It was pretty cool as a mom to get asked to play things with some of the other kids. It was also fun to watch how a lot of the girls ran to play dress-up with the dolls, or push them around in carriages. A lot of the kids also wanted to build with the blocks, and the teacher also participated in jumping on the squares of the carpet.

Trevor and Elizabeth seemed inseperable (sorry, the spell-check doesn't work on here anymore!), but it was nice to see that neither he nor she was really the overpowering kid. They both said "Sit by me" or "Stand by me" or "come play with me". And I haven't seen them play together since they were more fighting than playing. And it looks like they will be together at school again next year.

And I also learned that he knows how to put on his coat by himself. His teacher taught all the kids how to be like a fireman and lay their coats on the ground. Although I also saw a few kids able to do everything by themselves, and Trevor still is not able to zip up his coat. We'll be working on that soon!

So hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day! Hubby and my day was last Friday when we were able to go out to dinner and bowling! It was a great time to ourselves. Thank you mom!

Trevor may be growing up...

but I can still pull one over on him occassionally. Hee hee.

So Russ was playing "Metro-aide" last night, or I guess I should say Trevor wanted to play, but then finds out he is not good enough to play, and gets Russ to finish. But while he's playing, he likes to reinact whatever is going on. With Metroid, it's always been putting a plastic cup over his hand and shooting with it. It has been at least 4-5 months or so since he has played Metroid. But Trevor knew to ask for the plastic cup.

It was his name for it, that really got to me. He called it his "pew-pew". Meaning the sound that the laser made when you shoot it. But when he asked for it last night, he asked where his "shooter" went. Awww...my little baby grew up. He didn't want to call it his pew pew anymore. Actually, he didn't remember. Because after I said it to Russ, he quickly called it his pew-pew.

Then, for dinner, as I stated before, Trevor has been anti-french fries for a while now. Last night we had steak for dinner, and I bought tater tots. Not my most favorite food, but I knew that they were at least somewhat close to fries. Maybe I could get Trevor started on the road to french fries again.

So when they arrived at the table, he poo-poo'd them. Didn't want them even on his plate. But he had to try them, and after he tried them, the tots on the table that he had moved off of his plate, quickly disappeared. Funny thing, we put some ketchup on his plate too if he wanted to dip his tots in it and he ended up using them for his steak. HECK, like I care. Whatever it takes to eat a good dinner and I'm happy!

So maybe maybe he'll slowly go back to french fries. If not, at least we have a quick alternative that we can make which aren't baked potatoes (Trevor won't eat those either though).

UPDATE: Gwen just got up from his nap, and Trevor actually ASKED to have her moved closer to him so he could do his Nascar race for her, and now is doing his train story for her. Now this could be because he is trying to avoid his nap, but really I'm happy that he at least has a short sliver of time where he isn't telling her to stop looking at him. Hooray for Trevor!

Is it spring yet?

We just came back from Basketball, but only after braving a quickly developing snowstorm. Actually, it was just a lot of blowing snow, and it is about to get very cold. But because of that, I'm really really looking forward to it getting warmer and finally it being spring. I know we are at least a month out, and it will probably be more snow before then too, but I think it's also getting a bit long for Trevor too. In a few weeks we'll be starting ECFE for Gwen which takes place on Mondays, so every day we will have something going on. With the exception of Sundays.

I'm also happy to report, after almost a full week of Gwen getting all messed up with her sleeping and eating, she had a great night last night and is sleeping right now. I knew it wouldn't be forever, but it is hard dealing with it at the time! She had gone back to needing a bottle in the middle of the night, and waking up a few times. So now we are back to letting her sleep in her bouncy chair. It is so weird to think that she just can sense when she isn't as upright as she is in her chair, and will wake up within 15 minutes if you put her in her crib. I thought maybe she was getting a cold, as Trevor has one, but so far so good.

So anyway, sounds like Gwen is waking up from her nap. Time to say hello!

What's going on with Trevor

And no, I'm not trying to complain. I feel like I haven't updated everyone on how and what is going on with Trevor. He is becoming very independent and very self-sufficient. But that doesn't exactly erase the mommy guilt of every time Gwen goes down to take a nap, I should try to play with him.

Anyway, the big thing that is always around these days are Trevor's food aversions. I've come to believe that it's almost pointless to have your young child try different things when they are first eating solid foods. Doesn't mean I won't still do it with Gwen, but Trevor loved a BUNCH of different foods: avacados, mangos, beans, peas, and I know there were a lot more. I'll remember them when I make a list for Gwen to try. But now, there are only a few select foods he eats without asking "how many more bites until I can be done?" It's also a little hard because around the time he was sick with this last cold, he had a lot of junk in his throat, so eating was tough. Actually, more the swallowing. So I can remember twice where he gagged on french fries from McD's. Now, he won't touch them. And he doesn't even care for the apple dippers. But that's what we get now. It has also become all french fries. So his usual stand-by of chicken fingers and fries is no more. His new food that he always tries to order is spaghetti. Luckily a lot of our dine-in places do have it.

One other food dislike is milk. He will usually drink chocolate milk, and take milk in his cheerios in the morning, but if it is to drink for lunch or dinner, he doesn't want it. He prefers water. Thank GOODNESS I didn't ever give him juice in his straw cups because he just thinks that's what he should have. He has a glass of OJ in the morning with breakfast, and that's all the juice he gets. So he is a good water drinker.

Off of the subject of food, I wanted to make note of the current way you have to read stories to him. I usually read stories before he goes to bed, and he has always tried to make me stay longer in his room. Sometimes it was "Mommy, I have to ask you a question". Sometimes it was "Mommy, I need a hug and a kiss" - This was after 2 or 3 hugs and kisses. But now, the stalling takes place during storytime. Every single thing he can point out in a picture, he says "What's he saying?" So you have to interpret what that person or thing is thinking to himself. And of course it may not be anything realistic. It could be a rock in a picture. ANYTHING to keep me talking and in the room. I do give him credit. It can keep me an extra 5 minutes.

So last night he was reading a story to me after I was done. And I did it to him. "What's he saying?" He did really well! He interpreted what that person was thinking in the story. I might just have to challenge him next time. Maybe throw in a rock or tree or something. See how he takes it.

Stuff going on with Gwen

Well, we had her 4 month dr appt yesterday. It went very well. I heart Dr. K. Anytime a new change in parenting comes out that I hear about, I wonder how it's going to affect our visits to the doctor, and I don't know why but it always suprises me that the doctor doesn't seem all that phased by it. For example, when there was the big recall of cold products for kids and a big directive to not give them to kids under 7 years old, I was very concerned because unless Trevor can take things that dry up his nose for the night, he gets ear infections REAL fast. So I asked the Dr, when I was in for one of Gwen's check-ups about it. He said he was frustrated because it was the manufacturers error in that they were overdosing kids. As long as we had the correct dose, it was perfectly fine to give on an as-needed basis, especially when it interfered with sleep and getting well again.

However, if you call the nurse phone line and ask a nurse about it, they will give you the "it has been recommended that children not take those medications anymore" and go on to direct you to use a humidifier, prop them up with pillows at night, etc. (Of course I do all these things already).

Ok, but back to Gwen. First off, she weighed 16lbs 4oz and is 25.25" long. She is between 85-90% for both. But she has almost caught up with how long Trevor was at her age, and is still almost a lb behind him in weight. I talked to the doctor about cereal, because with Trevor, the recommended age was 4 months, and now it is 6 months. So he read the standard answer of: "Most babies need no other foods until 6 months of age". But he then quickly said, "But we know we are not dealing with a normal baby here. She is FAR superior to any normal baby. Therefore, I say go ahead whenever you think she is ready." He made me chuckle. So we'll be going into trying cereals within the next few weeks. I'm not in a real rush yet. She sleeps well at night (usually), so it would really only be to cut back on some of the formula I'm giving her. Then she got her shots (screamed then quickly calmed down), and said we'd see him again in two months.

As for things she is doing....she loves her toes. It's not exactly "lady-like" but she is entertained for a good 10-15 minutes or so if she is well fed and rested. She's also already into the johnny jumper, the exersaucer and will sit in her high-chair while we are eating and play with toys. Her reaching is very good, and it is interesting to notice that she seems better with her left hand (which also has the birthmark on it) than she is with her right.

It is also a time for her to talk, shreek, laugh, scream and make any new noise she can. She also likes to gargle and thinks she just is DA BOMB when she gargles. As long as there is something in her throat, she keeps doing it and doing it. She also has learned that if she makes something of a cry, someone will come running. I know we are going to have to "train" her to fall asleep, although I'm not ready to do that yet. Probably starting around 5 1/2 months or so. I know that if we can do it earlier, it will be easier than if we wait. Only problem is, I hope we won't have to do it with Trevor trying to sleep. That's why I run now. At least if it is at night.

Speaking of sleeping, we are currently going through a little crib strike. I thought the shots would help her "reboot" her sleep cycle, but no such luck. She woke up at 1am last night and was up for the morning at 5:30. And if I try to put her back in the crib after that point, she wakes right up. So we are back to sleeping upright for the time being. Oh well. What can you do? I love her kisses so everything is good.

Boston part two

Let me first say that I did not mean to leave Tracy out of the "thank-yous" I did on the previous post. I wanted to thank her in a different way, but now thinking about it, it just made it sound like I wasn't appreciative of the help she also gave to us while watching or holding or playing with Gwen and Trevor. So THANK YOU to Tracy as well for helping us manage the kids while we were in Boston. In addition, Thanks to Tracy for letting us tag along and suggest places to go and things to eat. It was a lot of fun to visit!

And about the visit.....I think I mentioned that the first night of sleeping went very well for Gwen. She was asleep by 10:15 Boston time which is early for her. She slept until 7:00 and then went back to sleep until 9:45. Trevor went to sleep after Gwen did, and was up for good at 7:30 but had woken up a few times during the night. So we got up and had their buffet breakfast. I love love love omelets. Trevor had a good breakfast after not really having the chance to eat much the day before. As we had to eat on the plane, have some snacks from walgreens, and then eat dinner at Applebees.

We went back to the room after breakfast and Gwen was still asleep. So she eventually got up, where we then all walked up to the walgreens to pick up a few things. BOY was the weather pleasant compared to both Minnesota below zero temps as well as the sun following the rain from yesterday. We came back to the hotel and before we knew it, it was time to head to the next game.

So we were all decked out in BC gear (pictures to come) and were happily there for the entire game that day. BC won again, 4-0. And Gwen slept through most of the game. After the game, the Eagles had a free skate in which Trevor was able to ride around with Tracy (no skates this time) and we decided to go to Legal Seafood to eat dinner. It was a little more spendy than Applebees, but you HAVE to have seafood when you are on the east coast.

So we made a reservation and booked over to the restaurant after the game and free skate. Gwen was out like a light, and when we finally were seated at the restaurant, Trevor got goldfish to eat ate the close to the entire bag, and started nodding off at the table. So he went over and laid down on dad's shoulder where he was asleep within a minute. He did wake up after he had been passed to Derek and then to Grandma when the food arrived, but he asked to be moved back to dad, and he was. I had yummy double stuffed shrimp. It was baked shrimp stuffed with crab meat. AHHHHH.... Russ had the lobster, but I think everyone had a great meal. We even got dessert.

But by the time we got back to the hotel, it was after the time that the pool was open. Because Gwen had been napping well during the day, that meant that she was going to be up later and earlier then in the morning. But what can you do?

The final day was pretty quick. We figured we had to be out of the hotel at 10:45 to catch the 1:00 flight. We grabbed breakfast, and then McD's at the airport, and then had to get on a completely full flight. Thank goodness this flight was also reasonably on time. Trevor was still very tired from the whole weekend, so his attention was pretty short. Gwen thankfully slept through most of the flight.

We took our time getting off the plane and down to the luggage area, so it was waiting when we got there. I think we were finally in the door at 4:15 or so? Maybe it was a little later than that. But all-in-all it was a great trip. I'll post a few pictures at a later time.

So THANK YOU to Tracy for letting us come out and interrupt your life for the weekend! It was great to see you and can't wait to see you hopefully next month!

Boston part one

I'm not sure how many entries this will take up, but I'm pretty sure it will be more than one. I also never know how far I'm going to get in terms of one of the kids needing my help so this way I can pause for a break after a while.

We all have been looking forward to the trip and for me it was a bit of nervousness as well, trying to travel on a plane with a 4 month old. Trevor, I wasn't worried about. Maybe if it was his first trip, but he still remembers last year's trip as well as the trip out to Mexico (which he still asks if we are going on that trip too).

But basically, both kids did really well. And thank you for Teresa, Derek, Kyrsten, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Great-Grandpa for all their help with both Trevor and Gwen during the trip. It made it much easier on mom and dad ;-)

I do highly recommend doing the early morning flight just because both kids are fresh for the day and I think last a lot longer than when we came home and were very tired. Granted mom and dad weren't exactly "freshest" after having to get up at 5am. But that morning, Gwen cried out, as if on cue for our alarm clock right at 5am. She then went right back to sleep and slept until we made it to the airport.

We were at the airport at 6am, and it was packed as always. I don't think I've ever been to the airport to fly myself without it being packed. It took us a few minutes to check our luggage, and another 15 minutes to get through security. Kind of a tough feat with a carseat, stroller, two carry-ons and two kids. Then we had to get breakfast, but couldn't eat it before we had to get onto the plane.

On the flight down, we were lucky in that it wasn't a completely full plane. But we didn't have any open seats around us. Gwen hadn't eaten her breakfast yet, so I was able to feed her while the plane taxied and took off. She slept for about a half hour of the two hour trip. Trevor was entertained by watching out the window for a short portion of the take-off and taxiing. I moved to the back of the plane to let Gwen stretch out on her back in the empty seats. She was good for another half hour. The rest of the trip was a "pass the baby". We arrived and she was finally able to fall asleep while we were still in the plane just about to connect with the jetway. So for us, it was very nice.

When we got off the plane, and went down to luggage claim, our bags were already there. Derek had called and said that because their flight was so late getting in (they didn't land until after 1am) they had to get a rental car, and wanted to know if we wanted our luggage picked up. SCORE! We left our bags, stroller, and Great-grandma and grandpa were able to get a ride with Derek instead of having to go all around on the T.

We immediately checked into the hotel, and were in our room by 12:30. Russ ran up a few blocks to get a few necessities like water and we were waiting for him to get back before we took off to the hockey game. Unfortunately, it then started to sleet/rain pretty hard. While there were always overhangs, and we didn't get THAT wet while walking around, when we were waiting for the campus bus to take us to the hockey rink, everyone got SOKED and hit pretty hard with the wind. Luck was not with us that trip. Both Trevor and Gwen were troopers as she fell asleep right as we were getting on the bus, and Trevor didn't seem to complain at all. He loves vehicles and I think enjoyed the part where he didn't have to put on a seatbelt.

Unfortunately, we arrived at the game probably at 2:30, which made us miss the entire first period. Sorry Tracy! We watched the remainder of the game - Which BC won - 4-0, bought an umbrella and some BC clothing, dried out as much as we could, and then decided to go to Applebees for dinner. Gwen was a peach throughout the whole day. She took her naps when she needed to, ate when she was hungry, and generally wasn't very fussy at all. I think she enjoyed the stimulation.

After eating, it finally was just drizzling instead of pouring. But the wind was pretty chilly. We caught a train back to the hotel just in time to try to go swimming before it closed. Now, the pool was in the center of the hotel area, not enclosed by anything. Other than a metal fence. So I can't imagine that it is ever very warm in the pool area. But Trevor would not even put a little toe in the pool. Can't say I blamed him. But we were able to get him into the hot tub, which could not have been more than 80 degrees. Also pumping cold water into it. But it was good enough for Trevor.

We were back for the end of the day in the hotel room. Took showers, and watched The Incredibles on the Disney Channel. Then it was time for bed. After a long day, everyone fell asleep pretty quickly. And Gwen slept until 7:00 (6:00 our time), ate and then went back to sleep. So Trevor and I could run out and get breakfast while daddy and Gwen slept.
