Miscellaneous stuff

Gwen has an ear infection. Just in one ear. She's on the tail end of her cold so I'm thinking the antibiotics will work again.

Trevor went to the big gym again today. It cracks me up when we come home afterwards and then he tries to jump on his single person trampoline and he says it's broken.

So today I went out to get the mail. Up the street, I hear a police siren and see a police car trying to pull over a black suburban. The driver either was drunk or had a medical condition because he drove up on the curb before crossing the block before our street. He then came up our street, drove up onto our neighbor's curb and knocked over the mailbox. At this point I ran up and locked our door and peered out to see what was going on. All I saw was the police officer walking up to the truck and then the driver sped off. So then there were a total of three cars that zoomed by after him and then eventually an ambulance. WOO HOO...the things that happen in our town!

The proof is in the playgroup

So Tuesday, there was a playgroup at Trevor's friend Julie's house. I had a talk with him prior to arriving at the house making sure he knew that he needed to be nice to his friends. It was a big turnout and Trevor did very well. He has also really enjoyed when kids are around vs. being by himself playing on playground type equipment. I saw him running around the slide, like in a race.

Gwen decided to fall asleep on me (good thing, because it was downright CHILLY that morning) for almost the entire time. So she was well entertained that morning. But Trevor simply played and played with his friends. Another thing that I was surprised about was the fact that he stayed away from all the riding/vehicle toys. He just wanted to swing or slide or play around.

My point in all this was simply the fact that without preschool he never would have done this well. Of course because of preschool I was also a little nervous about Trevor and his friend Sam. They had been a little confrontational lately. But after a few minutes of warming up...they did great! It was so nice to see.

So parks, and other places where there are a lot of kids are now pretty open to play for Trevor now. And it makes it so a mom doesn't have to worry. Thankfully! YAY!

We had a nice Memorial Weekend

Did you? We spent the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning at the lake. Trevor was on-the-go the entire time. Throwing rocks in the lake, spraying the flowers with the hose, going for a walk/bike ride, and he even got out to play golf at the local golf course. I'd say he was pretty much recovered from his cold.

Gwen did really well for having a cold herself. It was mostly just a coughing thing that happened when she was laying down. She was never "up" in the middle of the night but she had a few coughing fits. And it would sometimes wake her up from her naps. But she did have a great time with her cousins. She loved to look at Ellie and Addison. Megan got some great pictures. I'll have to post them when I remember to get our own pictures off the camera.

And Trevor always has a great time with Ellie and JJ. If the darn weather gets nice, I bet they will have a blast playing in the lake this year. Or at least go on a boat ride.

So we came back on Sunday in order to go to the local parade here. It is perfect for Trevor's age. They had a few fire trucks, some police, Kennedy High's Marching Band, Boy and Girl Scouts, and a little old time car parade. It lasted about 20 minutes, if that. He also got his bag full of candy which mostly ends up in the trash. Thankfully this year as he came down with HORRIBLE diarrhea in the middle of the night Sunday night. But he's back to normal today. I'm glad we didn't have to deal with it at the lake.

And now we are on week one of summer vacation. No big plans until week 3 when the activities start. So if the darn weather is good, we'll be outside and maybe at a park or two. We'll see how Gwen does napping.

Last day of school

I can't say that Trevor was sad to go to school today. I think it's going to take a few weeks for him to understand that he won't be able to go back to school for a few months. I tried to talk to him about it, but it was always in the future tense, so I don't think he got it.

However, in honor of it being the last day of school, I figure I should mention to you all the changes that I have seen in him this year that I attribute to preschool and the wonderful teachers he had. If not completely, they played a major role in.

The biggest one was definitely socially. Trevor had had a few playgroups, and gone to ECFE classes as well as Gymboree and such. But I hesitated bringing him anywhere or having a mommy friend watch him because I was so nervous as to how he would behave if another kid was around. I knew it was normal that he wouldn't share or even would fight in order to get attention but that didn't mean that I wanted to put another adult through watching him do those things.

Fast forward to today. Or actually yesterday. I've brought him to the park a few times now and have great confidence that he will play "nicely" with other kids. And what's really neat to see is that he is not always the "come with me" person. He will follow as well as suggest what to do. And because he usually gravitates to older kids, they don't have any problem saying no to him and he doesn't get upset.

When I went to observe at preschool a few times, I saw Trevor dealing with these conflicts and heard about them from his teacher during conferences. It was really something he had to learn. His friendships had formed with peers of his where he usually ran the show or at least when he suggested something, they didn't usually say they didn't want to do it. It was very interesting to see how he took someone saying no to him. But now, it's obvious he gets it. That he'll be fine and that he can still do something with his friend, but it may not be something that he wanted to do.

Another big thing that preschool contributed to was his interest in calendars and numbers. I had tried to get him interested in calendars, counting down especially to Christmas. And I knew he knew how to count at least to 20. But now, he can count to 109 before he asks for help and has his own calendar that he can flip around and look at things that are coming up, or have past. We count down to a lot of things and add things even after they happened. I know preschool had a lot to do with this. They have a calendar that they keep track of things such as holidays or simply how to tell what the date is.

Anyway, I sent Trevor to school with a thank-you letter to the teachers outlining these same thoughts and it seemed to go over well. It was good to give a little boost to the teachers. Just to let them know how much they meant to Trevor and our family during the year.

Ok....so that's school today. We are at the lake for the weekend. More to come on that. Looks like we are going to have decent weather!

That explains it

Most of my difficulty on Friday comes from two things....Gwen not napping and Trevor about to get sick. He is always very challenging the day before. I should have guessed. And now he is probably as bad as he is going to get which is the same as the cold that Gwen caught and turned into RSV. I wonder what the chances are of her not getting it. My guess is the same as winning the lottery. If she doesn't get it I'll have to buy a ticket. And it isn't just her. If I get the cold you can bet I'll be the one to pass it on because she doesn't stop kissing, hugging and grabbing my face. She is too quick to even stop.

Anyway, Monday was great. I got to clean, and Gwen took an hour and a half nap in the morning so I got a few things done. She is in SUCH a better mood if she gets a good nap in. She usually wakes up very happy because she gets a full night's rest, but as soon as she goes down for a nap, she wakes up crying because for some reason she just hasn't learned to stay asleep for naps. I'm guessing that will change, but it might be around the time she is a year. Or maybe 9 months. I can always hope.

And wouldn't you know, we have another cool night for golf. Still won't be even close to 70 degrees, although yesterday was not even able to reach 60 so I guess I should be happy.

I'm posting my Wii Console and Mario Kart friend number here: I think I have to have both of yours to play with you or just one (Mario Kart) to compare times and such.

So here goes - Wii console number:

We did have a great week

The weather was very nice after a yucky golfing evening. But even that wasn't the worst I've played in this year. And that is pretty sorry. But we got out of the house a LOT to do errands, and our normal activities. Trevor went to a farm for his preschool field trip. He talked about how he was Ty's partner and his favorite animal was the sheep. Because they were so soft. His least favorite animal were the pigs because they were so loud. My son and his sensitivity to loud noise. He mentioned that they jumped into the hay and made dust by kicking it around.

We then went over to Bubba's house after the field trip because he got back early. We went to the park out there and both kids had a nice nap in the car on the way back. Thursday evening he had his T-ball game and it was great weather for that.

So I decided that on Friday we would just hang out. I really didn't feel like even going for a walk. Trevor even asked if we could do nothing so he could stay in his PJ's all day. I had forgotten how S-L-O-W the day goes by when you don't get out of the house, or really do anything other than just pretend play all day. Gwen goes through her nap cycles just like her nighttime sleep. Thursday she took two two-hour naps. Which meant on Friday she hardly slept at all. Trevor had a rough day and I thought it was because he hadn't napped or slept well at night, but turns out he had the start of a cold. And I'm pretty sure it was because he thought he was doing a great thing by sharing his water bottle. He did it both at the park and at T-ball.

Now the only thing I can do is hope it isn't a bad cold so that when Gwen gets it, she can get rid of it quick.

Lots goes on

Oh I am so happy to say that it really feels like the weather is turning warmer. I can't be outside enough, although Gwen doesn't have the attention span to be on long walks or play at the parks as long as Trevor would like. Tuesday night golf was horrible, but better than two weeks ago when I didn't even go because of the downpours. One other lady and I braved the rain and the cold and still played our 9 holes. I just wish one of these Tuesdays we will make it to warm weather. I haven't been able to go without a jacket on for goodness sake!

Trevor will be on his last week of school next week. Today he went on a field trip to the Farm. Dodge Nature Center I believe is the technical term for it. He said his favorite animal was a sheep and his least favorite was a pig. I asked him why and he said it was because they were too loud. He also liked when they got to jump into the hay. He said it made a lot of dust. I hope none of the kids had hay fever!

Yesterday, Bubba took him to the Teddy Bear park. Sounds like he ran around for a good 4 hours or so. It was a perfect day then too. We went outside to play, then went on a walk after dinner. Today after the field trip we went over to Bubba's house to get outside over there, and then after dinner he had his t-ball game. It was a perfect night for it. I can't wait to be able to leave our windows open at night. Or at least take the down comforters off the beds.

I'm starting to make plans for the days Trevor isn't at one of his camps. He has a lot of them. But I know he'll have a blast. Especially the ones that his friends are at. You know, if Gymnastics weren't such a girl focused sport, I think he'd REALLY enjoy it. I asked him if he liked the balance beam at school and he said he loved it. It is one of his first camps in the summer time.

Ok...well I better get to bed. I've been able to get a lot more sleep this week than last. But one or both of the kids do scream out during various points in the night, so I do wake up. But I'll take that over actually having to get out of bed any day!

Come ON weather

I am anxiously awaiting hot weather. Weather where I can turn off the heat at night. I JUST took the electric blanket off of our bed. Although most of this week I could have used it. I am now almost out of outfits for Gwen to wear since her 12 month long-sleeved shirt that I have would be a halter top on her if she didn't have an undershirt on. But I have nice, cute outfits for warm weather, if it would just get here already.

You know, she is finally on 3 month bottle flow. She went from number 2 (which is 1 month) to number 3. Now it only takes 10 minutes to finish a bottle, whereas it was 20 minutes. It was finally the right time because she was getting very sweaty and working hard at the slower flow. She's also doing great with food. It now is a taste/texture thing if she eats things. She loves the cereal puffs, but I cannot get her to eat cereal. Her favorite by far is yogurt, but I'm afraid she won't like it if I put cereal in it.

Trevor is down to his last 4 days of school. A warning to anyone that is going to come over any time soon: Russ has introduced him to the entire Star Wars Episode IV movie. (With the exception of the violent death scenes) He now wants to play Star Wars all the time and has asked me to watch the movie with him. It has been interesting to see how he takes it in while he is watching it, because you can see how excited he is to learn about it. As with anything new, he asks LOTS of questions: What is he doing, What is the death star doing, Why are they going to blow up the death star, Why are they rescuing Princess Leia, etc.

So that's what's going on from our neck of the cities.

Kentucky Derby

Whoops, it's been a week now. Where does that time go? Oh yeah. My daughter had been waking up so early and not napping enough to get anything else done. Of course here we are on a Saturday, and she napped twice for two hours each time. If she did that during the week, I would probably be able to take on a part-time job!

Anyway....the weekend at the cabin was nice, minus the yucky weather. But when hasn't it been bad weather. Golfing, the weekends...any time we would really like to get outside...totally worthless. And then I got a nice cold on Saturday...probably from the kids.

As always, it was wonderful to see the family. Gwen and Addie had some fun toy playing time together. Trevor got a lot of outside time even though it wasn't very nice. Kona was brought to the lake so Trevor had a playmate even when Ellie or JJ wasn't around.

We had exactly 20 people with 20 horses in the derby, so it worked out nicely. Trevor, Gwen and I all had longshot horses, and Russ had one of the top 3 favored horses, but Barb won it all. Lucky girl! I have heard from a few people that it was so "sad" about the 2nd place finisher. And while I do think it is unfortunate, it seems like it happens a lot. Now, I'm not a horse race person anyway, but I do try to catch all of the triple crown or until it is clear that one horse won't take the whole thing. And it was I think just two years ago when the winner of the Derby went on to break his leg and be euthanized (although it wasn't right at the race) because of an injury at one of the other races.

Gwen did really well in both car rides again, and I think we should now just leave her in the same seat as she normally sits in. We had been taking out her seat and putting her carseat in the back so that she could be right next to us. I can't wait until next year when she is forward facing so no one will have to move to the back seat with her!

So that's it in a nutshell.

YAY...she finally is over this 5am wake-up thing...

for the time being. And yes, it was just one day - today, but I also knew that when she was waking up at 5am, it was only for a few days or so. So I got a good night's sleep last night and she went back down after her 6am feeding. So I'm rested, showered, and ready for the morning. It makes SO much difference.

Yesterday was Trevor's second week of T-ball. It was a lot of fun for him! Last year, for the 3 year-old group, a parent had to be with each kid. Now, if a parent stands at each base, and someone is in the field with the kids, they are pretty good. Russ is the coach along with one other parent, and he's trying to do a few exercises with the kids. But put them in the field, and everyone runs after the ball. I'm guessing that will be a while before the kids are ready to stay in one spot and let someone else get the ball.

I don't know how in the 3 year-old group, we used the entire 30 minutes to bat for the team. Last night, there were 5 batting and fielding changes. The kids are quick so it gives them a lot of chances to bat. Which I think they like better.

Ok....Gwen is up. I'll have to get her!

Spring Program

Wow...they did a really good job. All of the kids. And I loved how the teachers were in front of the kids which were on a raised stage. I saw that the teachers had little flip cards that helped the kids with the words to the songs and such.

Trevor, as you could see, was trying real hard to sing strong and loud and get all the actions correct. His teacher had told me he was working really hard and doing a great job at remembering everything he had to do. After their songs, a few of the kids helped perform the story "Little Red Hen". Olivia was the little red hen and was absolutely ADORABLE. Her two lines that she repeated throughout the story were, "Who will help me?" and "Then I will". Her little voice was SO strong, and the emphasis on the words were cuter than anything I have heard in a long time. Trevor did a wonderful job as the cat, responding his "Not I" and "I will" as well as even acting when he was prancing to get the baked bread that he "smelled" during his story.

But what was the best was the commentary. I'm not sure where his need to talk with adults comes from, but he wasn't willing to let something like a performance stop that. There were a few "Bubba, look at Miss Gadbury" and "Bubba I have a present for you". He even named off "Amy, Bubba, Grandma, Grandpa, Daddy, you all are coming to my house". I don't think he ever saw me across the room video taping (for lack of a more technologically correct word) him because he never addressed me. The last thing he said was actually to extend an invitation to the whole room to come back to his house. I then got at least 5 jabs from various parents that they accepted the invitation. Oh that Trevor.

So then we watched the video taping and the poor boy was then embarrassed by what he did. I'm not sure if it is because we were laughing, or if he is a little weirded out by seeing himself on TV. I just hope he doesn't stop doing whatever it is he is doing. He is such a vibrant kid, full of energy and you never know what is going to come out of his mouth next. I can't wait to see future performances!

So much has happened!

Sorry...and I know I won't get a good post for now, but I wanted to let you know I'm here and have a lot to catch up on! It has been a fast few days as it was Trevor's Spring Preschool Program, his first T-ball game of the season, and then we went to the lake for Kentucky Derby!

I need to get a few things done around the house today and then I'm off to golf on this FINALLY beautiful day! Hopefully we'll be outside as much as possible. But while I'm stuck inside I'm going to try to clean/straighten. Off for now!
