Gwen's Baptism

So the other big event of the weekend was Gwen's baptism. Because she didn't sleep much the day before, she actually was sleeping up until we had to head to the church. So it was very nice to know that she would probably be awake for the ceremony.

We met with the priest, godparents Amy and Brian, and the organizer Judy. The priest who baptised Trevor was the same priest that baptised Gwen. So that was very nice. Also, all the Christmas decorations were still up because it was the last week of the Christmas season in the Catholic church. They were also doing a commemorative baptism honoring all the people that had been baptised the prior year. So they did a sprinkling rite at the start of church where we got to walk behind the priest as he sprinkled water over the congregation.

The homily was really sweet because the priest told us he had never baptised a "Gwendolyn" before. His homily revolved around names and what they mean. I knew I read what Gwendolyn meant when we chose the name, but I had forgotten. It means: Blessed white ring. Very appropriate that she was dressed in a white gown for the event.

After the homily, we did the actual baptism and then finished with rest of the mass. It was also nice to see that a few people I knew happened to be attending that mass so they came up to us afterwards for a congratulations.

Trevor did really well during the mass as well. For over a year now he's been very sensitive to loudspeakers and voices over them. But both for Christmas Eve mass and this one, he was very accepting of it. We were all talking about who was baptised when....because mommy and Trevor and Gwen were baptised when they were zero years old, but other people were older than that. Also, the gown that Gwen was wearing was also worn by Trevor, my two younger brothers, myself - 30 years ago TODAY, and my dad. So it has gotten some good use!

So that was our weekend. We have a few weeks break before we go on our trip to Boston! Yipee!!!
